Moon News: February Full Snow Moon

The February “snow moon” in Leo takes place on February 12, 2025, rising at 5:29 pm, and setting the next morning at 7:17 am. The snow moon is associated with the cleansing properties of snow, and the cleaning of the earth at the end of winter in preparation for the thawing of spring. We find ourselves not quite in the time to plant seeds, but in the time to plan our gardens for the year, both literally and metaphorically.

Some astrological placements for this full moon will be: Moon in Leo, Sun in Aquarius, Mercury in Aquarius, Venus in Aries, Mars will be retrograde in Cancer, Jupiter in Gemini, Saturn in Pisces, Uranus in Taurus, Neptune in Pisces, and Pluto in Aquarius. There will be a grand cross between the Moon, Uranus, the sun, and the south node. While I am not an accomplished astrologer, I through the magic of the internet can commune with those who are, and their interpretation of the themes of these placements is that this full moon will be a time of coming home to yourself, to face your inner child, and assess what they need going forward. This will also be a good time to try and find some balance between the needs of the self, and the needs of your community, as neither should be neglected in a balanced life. The positioning of Uranus means that there may be revelations about your life, and your relationships with others which need reflection and action. It is also important to note this is the last full moon before we enter eclipse season. Starting in march there will be a set of seven moons capped between two total lunar eclipses, so the energy of the moon will continue returning with force in the coming months. Now is the time to prepare!

We are connected in moon power, whether we are physically together or not!

Happy Snow Moon Everyone!

Simple Snow Moon Ritual

Supplies: A bowl of clean snow (or ice water), a white candle, a towel, your usual altar setup.

1. Cast your circle, cleanse your space, or prepare for ritual as you normally would, but keep the bowl of snow or ice water at the ready.

2. Light your candle, and gaze into the flame. Take some time in your circle to meditate on the end of the winter, coming soon. Think about the metaphorical seeds you would like to see planted for yourself this spring, and the steps you need to take to be ready when the time comes for planting. Then think about something you would like to leave behind with the winter. What would you like to shed and walk away from?

3. Turn your palms toward the sky, while your elbows remained tucked by your side, now call on the goddess. “Lady of the moon. Shine your light on me. Remind me of my place in the cosmos tonight. Guide me as I plan for the coming spring”

4. With your index finger scratching on your palm, write the words of the thing you’d like to release or shed from your life this winter. Switch hands and do it again on the other side.

5. “I have been burdened by this ______. It is now finished. I will carry it no more after tonight. It is finished. I will leave it frozen, to follow me no longer. It is finished.”

6. Now take your bowl of snow or ice water, and begin washing your hands with it. Scrub away the feeling of the traced words on your palm, and let them be cleansed and frozen away. Continue chanting “It is finished.” Do this until you are satisfied. Dry your hands with your towel.

7. Warm your hands at the flame of the candle. Let the warmth flow through your body, and imagine the light filling you as well. Through this small purification you have been changed.

8. When you are done with your meditation, thank the moon, and whatever spirits you have invited into your space, and close your circle.

9. Dispose of the snow or ice water outside and into the earth to be reabsorbed and transmuted.
